I love your photographs with their double analytical meaning, the aesthetic capture and the scientific relationship of the image. Polysemy of the image. Very good. ❤️🌻
Thank you very much. I am very happy that you feel the double meaning in my photographs. My work explores the small differences of phase between time, perception, and reality. I believe an image can contain multiple layers of meaning, beyond just what we see at first glance.

A semiotic analysis of images is like deconstructing what lies behind the mirror, revealing the richness each photograph possesses. Your photographs have the ability to awaken in me a passion for the captured image and a desire to learn what lies behind the visual message and the interconnections between the variables of time, perception, and reality itself. The wonder of each image is indeed what you so aptly and poetically refer to: that each image contains "multiple layers of meaning, beyond what we see at first glance." Every day I learn something new, and your photographs have already provided me with new insights that I greatly appreciated discovering. ❤️🌻

Let me try to put into words what I have been calling the Theory of Micro-Phase Differences. Photography is, among the mediums available to us, unique in one respect: it is the only medium that truly stops a moving reality. A painting is built up over time and never claims to have arrested a single instant. Film and video keep reality moving. Only the photograph takes one instant and holds it still, cut away from the instants before and after it. My theory begins from a simple operation: instead of presenting one stopped instant alone, place two stopped instants side by side. Two photographs, taken moments apart, of what appears to be the same subject or the same field of reality. At first glance they look nearly identical — a paired composition, 双構図. But they are never identical. Between them there is a small phase difference: a shift in light, in the position of a body, in the angle of a shadow, in what has entered or left the frame. That small difference is where the theory lives. A single photograph shows you a frozen fact. Two photographs placed together do something else — the gap between them becomes a place where the moving reality that photography otherwise suppresses starts to leak back in. The viewer's mind, trying to reconcile the two images, ends up reconstructing motion, time, and causality that neither image alone contains. Meaning does not sit inside either photograph. It appears in the interval between them. This is why I think of the pairing not as a formal device but as an instrument of perception. The micro-phase difference is small enough that it does not read as narrative or sequence in the way a film-strip does. It reads instead as a kind of vibration — a trace of the real that the single, stopped image could never hold.

Helena:
Helena
